| Content | AMS Neve’s 8816 Summing Mixer is a surefire way to infuse your projects with unmistakable Neve character. That said, many engineers crave the tactile, hands-on control of a console. AMS Neve gets it — that’s why they created the 8804 Fader Pack. Handmade in Burnley, England, this pro-quality long-throw fader module boasts 16 channel faders, two master faders, and 16 Cut/Solo switches — everything you need to take command of your mix. The 8804 also includes 16 direct outputs that enable you to use your 8816 mixer’s level pots as auxiliary sends. Integrating outboard effects has never been easier! The 8804 also includes a USB port for saving and recalling settings to and from your computer. Installing and operating the 8804 is a breeze, thanks to its bus-powered design, and it supports 4U rackmount or tabletop operation (optional tabletop support legs are available).
Great-feeling long-throw faders draw you into your mix
The 8804 makes diving into a mix comfortable, easy, and enjoyable. This module includes 16 great-feeling long-throw 100mm channel faders, which enable you to take command of channels 1–16 on your 8816 mixer, with +15dB of gain on tap. When you attach the 8804 to your mixer, the mixer’s rotary Level controls are removed from its main circuit and relegated to auxiliary send level duties. The 8804 also boasts two master faders, left and right, with a gain range from -∞dB to 0dB. You also get 16 Cut/Solo buttons, which enable you to mute or solo tracks via your mixer’s mute relays.
Extends the functionality of your 8816 summing mixer
The AMS Neve 8804 isn’t a mere control surface. Rather, it actually extends your 8816 mixer’s capabilities. Its 16 balanced direct outputs, which can be set pre- or post-fader, can be used for recording or as sends for your outboard effects. When you set them to post-fader, you’re able to select whether each output will be muted by the Cut/Solo switch. And since your levels will be controlled by the 8804, you can use your mixer’s rotary Level knobs as auxiliary pre-fader send level controls. At Sweetwater, we’ve found these sends to be an excellent way to integrate a hardware reverb unit into your mixing workflow.
Tailor-made for modern computer-based workflows
Integrating the 8804 into your modern, computer-based studio is super simple. Its USB port allows for easy recall of your settings via control software on your Mac or PC. And if you need more faders, you can connect up to two 8816 mixers and up to two 8804 fader packs at a time. Like most of AMS Neve’s cutting-edge products, the 8804 delivers the classic Neve sound high-level engineers love, along with the state-of-the-art features modern professionals demand.
The legend continues
At Sweetwater, the name Neve commands reverence. Rupert Neve started designing audio equipment in the tube console era but made his mark with solid-state designs. Setting up shop in Little Shelford in the ’60s, Mr. Neve faced many obstacles establishing his brand amid a new technological landscape. Transistors were new, expensive, and difficult to obtain in quantity in the UK. Reliable faders didn’t exist yet — a far cry from today’s world, where parts are affordable and readily available from multiple suppliers, all competing to win bids. Nevertheless, Rupert persisted. And by the early 1970s, the Neve company was humming along, taking orders and building custom transformer-balanced consoles for recording and broadcast studios the world over.
Neve 80-series consoles had a huge, punchy, and authoritative sound that defined the sound of ’70s rock. From London to New York to Los Angeles and beyond, top studios were installing Neve desks as fast as they could. By 1978, with the introduction of the majestic 8078 — the pinnacle of handwired analog “production” consoles — and NECAM automation system, Neve boards were the main component of the success formula for any recording studio with world-class aspirations. In the decades since, AMS Neve has innovated with groundbreaking products such as the VR, VX, and 88R series consoles. And today, the company continues to advance the state of the art with cutting-edge pro audio gear that sounds incredible and intelligently addresses the challenges of the digital age.

Benefits of the hybrid studio
Producer/engineer Tony Shepperd came up with the idea for Mix Factory, and it was brought to life by noted circuit design wizard Paul Wolff. Mr. Shepperd had been one of the modern engineers who subscribed to the "all-in-the-box" school of digital music production. At some point, however, he came to believe that digital and analog could very well coexist in the contemporary studio in a synergistic union that delivered additional "best-of-both-worlds" sonic benefits. This hybrid approach worked exceptionally well for Tony, taking his mixes to a new level. So much so that other engineers took notice and started asking him for tips. Today, most high-end recording facilities (including Sweetwater Studios) are hybridized in one sense or another. A-Designs' Mix Factory is a smart and cost-effective way to realize the many advantages of this approach.
A-Designs Mix Factory Features:
