The TX-SR494 supercharges your Dolby Atmos and DTS:X experience. Object-based audio is mixed in 3D space and lets any sound play through any speaker, tracking the action, localizing effects and moving around you. Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X complement native 3D audio playback. These technologies find localization cues in legacy stereo or multichannel soundtracks and upmix these elements to create immersive top-to-bottom dimensionality.

When playing any Dolby format, engaging Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer enables a more immersive listening experience, creating a virtual surround and height effect from traditional speaker layouts without employing additional surround or height speakers.
Spatial sound elevated with DTS Virtual:X
DTS Virtual:X is a new surround-sound virtualization technology that creates an immersive 3D soundfield from any speaker layout, such as 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 and 7.1 configurations without height, surround or rear surround speakers deployed. It uses sophisticated DSP-based algorithms to place the audience at the center of a multidimensional soundfield with height and surround spatiality and is equally effective in large or small spaces. DTS Virtual:X works in the 3D domain with DTS:X soundtracks, DTS formats and non-encoded stereo.
Ready for 4K HDR entertainment
Enjoy comprehensive support for 4K/60p and HDR (High Dynamic Range) video formats including HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and BT.2020. The 4:4:4 color-space is also supported. More power, more realism, more magic
It's tempting to see watts as the most important figure on an amp's spec sheet. However, watts are an indication of loudness, not sound quality. Amperes-electrical current-tell the real story. The more current an amplifier develops, the better it controls the speakers. Better control equals fast transient response, wide dynamic range and clear, accurate sound. The high-output transformer, large capacitors and discrete amps inside the TX-SR494 produce the most current in its class. And that's one big reason why it sounds as good as it does.
AccuEQ Room Acoustic Calibration with AccuReflex
AccuEQ Room Acoustic Calibration creates a harmonious soundfield in your room. It detects speaker presence, size and distance from a measurement position and sets appropriate sound-pressure levels. It then selects the ideal subwoofer crossover and applies equalization to all speakers. AccuReflex technology optimizes reproduction of object-based audio through Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. It resolves phase-shift arising from path differences between directional and non-directional sounds. Along with improved localization, a 3D field with vertical movement and overhead dimensionality is produced.
Hear dialog clearly at the touch of a button
Finally, a fast and effective solution to inaudible dialog in TV programs and movies. The TX-SR494 features DSP-controlled Vocal Enhancer that identifies vocal frequencies and allows you to raise or lower them to taste using keys on the remote or via the tone controls on the receiver's front panel.
Share the atmosphere or relax in privacy
A fantastic addition to the TX-SR494 is a Zone B pre-/line-out. It connects a component with an analog RCA line input to audio sources available to the receiver, including HDMI and digital audio. Share sound to a hi-fi in a nearby space or connect a supported charging transmitter dock for wireless headphones and enjoy your entertainment without disturbing anybody.
Powered Zone B Audio or front-channel bi-amping
The Height/Surround Back/Bi-Amp/Zone B speaker outputs can drive stereo speakers in another room with a 5.2-ch setup in the main room. The outputs can share any AVR source exclusively in Zone B or play the same source in Main and Zone B. Alternatively, you can bi-amp your pair of compatible front speakers.

When an audio file is squeezed into a small container (such as MP3), high-frequency data is lost. This can affect sound quality. Mechanical Ground Concept
The A-S1200 adopts a Mechanical Ground Concept, inherited from both the A-S2200 and A-S3200. The concept begins with the bolts of the feet welded directly to the main chassis, followed with the large heat sink, power transformer and block capacitors also directly bolted to the chassis. Through this design, unwanted vibration is avoided, achieving expressive and rhythmic bass, presenting the 'Groove' of the music to the listener.

High Sound Quality Circuit Design Based on the ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) Concept
ToP-ART Design and ART Base ensure optimum sound when processing and transmitting the audio signal. The signal is simple and direct, therefore it is less likely to be affected by noise and distortion. The left and right channels are organized in a straight, symmetrical layout for the highest signal purity.
High Strength Chassis Contributes to High Density Sound and Pure Audio Reproduction
In order to effectively dampen the vibrations that have adverse effects on sound quality, the A-S801 chassis has a double bottom design with a 1 mm iron plate. In addition, the power transformer and heat sinks in the power amp section are supported by an extremely strong and stable ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough) base. A solid center bar further enhances high rigidity and dampens vibrations. These Yamaha design innovations contribute to superior signal to noise ratio with rich, natural sound reproduction.
High Quality Parts for Outstanding Audio Performance
Notice the custom-made power transformer, custom-made block capacitors, two direct signal path speaker relays, one point grounding system, extruded aluminum heat sinks and other top-quality parts to effortlessly handle demanding audio conditions. The quality of each individual part, as well as how they work together, basically determines the sound quality of this component. Yamaha uses only very high quality parts, carefully selected and tested for their sound properties.
USB DAC Function Supports Native DSD (2.8 MHz / 5.6 MHz) and PCM (384 kHz / 32-bit) Resolutions
The USB DAC function supports native DSD (2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz) and PCM (384 kHz / 32-bit ) resolutions. This function allows for a direct connection to PCs which opens the door to play back of the highest resolution audio content offered today. The Yamaha-developed USB device controller has its own master clock that eliminates PC jitter. The driver is a low loss, high throughput ASIO 2.3 Yamaha Steinberg USB driver. During playback, indicators on the front panel clearly show which sampling frequencies are currently being used.
Exceptionally High Performance 32-bit D/A Converter
After careful listening evaluations, Yamaha selected the 32-bit, 2-channel SABRE Premier Audio DAC from ESS Technology, Inc. Most notable is its high precision processing power of 32-bit audio along with the ability to handle large amounts of audio data with full PCM 384 kHz and native DSD 5.6 MHz. Since the built-in D/A converter generates its own master clock, an original jitter elimination function is also included, permitting D/A conversion with an extremely low impact of clock jitter. Moreover, a 2-channel D/A converter is housed inside the chip which applies a double differential operation. The result is exceptional high performance and high quality signal output with a superior signal to noise ratio.

With a straight connection to the CD input, CD Direct Amplification maximizes the CD sources signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, engaging the Pure Direct mode causes the music signals to travel the shortest possible circuit route, bypassing the buffer amp, the tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.
Continuous Variable Loudness Control
The A-S801 also features a new analog loudness control on the front panel that uses electronic volume for higher sound quality which lets you adjust the loudness effect as desired. Separate from the overall volume, this controls the balance of the low and high frequencies providing full tonal range at any volume level by compensating for the natural loss in the human ear at soft levels.
