In order to effectively dampen the vibrations that have adverse effects on sound quality, the A-S801 chassis has a double bottom design with a 1 mm iron plate. In addition, the power transformer and heat sinks in the power amp section are supported by an extremely strong and stable ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough) base. A solid center bar further enhances high rigidity and dampens vibrations. These Yamaha design innovations contribute to superior signal to noise ratio with rich, natural sound reproduction.
High Quality Parts for Outstanding Audio Performance
Notice a custom made power transformer, custom made block capacitors, two direct signal path speaker relays, one point grounding system, extruded aluminum heat sinks and other top quality parts to effortlessly handle demanding audio conditions. The quality of each individual part, as well as how they work together, basically determines the sound quality of this component. Yamaha uses only very high quality parts, carefully selected and tested for their sound properties.
Digital Audio Input for TV and/or Blu-ray Disc™ Player
The A-S801 is equipped for digital audio inputs with an optical and digital coaxial input terminal. The optical is for receiving audio from a TV and the coaxial for receiving audio from a Blu-ray Disc player. The audio stays in the digital domain giving you pure, pristine and dynamic sound for all your entertainment sources.
CD Direct Amplification and Pure Direct Mode for Greater Sound Purity
With a straight connection to the CD input, CD Direct Amplification maximizes the CD sources signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, engaging the Pure Direct mode causes the music signals to travel the shortest possible circuit route, bypassing the buffer amp, the tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.
Continuous Variable Loudness Control
The A-S801 also features a new analog loudness control on the front panel that uses electronic volume for higher sound quality which lets you adjust the loudness effect as desired. Separate from the overall volume, this controls the balance of the low and high frequencies providing full tonal range at any volume level by compensating for the natural loss in the human ear at soft levels.

Sophisticated Circuit Design
The power amp block adopts a symmetrical and direct circuit layout based on the ToP-ART concept, featuring a parallel push-pull structure using a total of eight bipolar-type power transistors (four each, on left and right) as its output terminals. And by minimizing the lengths of the audio signal paths in the circuit design, we've lowered impedance to achieve superb drive power with a maximum output of 145 watts (per channel).

MusicCast
A single WXA-50 can be used with speakers to create a standalone streaming audio system or multiple units can be used throughout the home. It can also be used with other MusicCast speakers, sound bars, AV receivers or Hi-Fi gear, providing more options and versatility than ever before.
Bluetooth and AirPlay
Stream virtually any audio source via Bluetooth as an input to the WXA-50. Bluetooth sources can be redistributed through Wi-Fi to other MusicCast devices. Or stream using AirPlay from an Apple device to a single unit.
Slim, Compact Design
Only 2" tall and 8-3/8" wide, it can be placed horizontally or vertically, allowing it to fit neatly in almost any space.
Rack Shelf Friendly
With the feet removed, the WXA-50 is only 1-5/8" high, allowing it to be placed on a rack shelf within a 1U high rack space. Two units can be placed side-by-side on a 19" wide shelf.
Superior Audio Technology
Yamaha's relentless pursuit of sonic purity is clearly evident in the engineering of the WXA-50. The preamp circuitry uses the same high-performance ESS Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) found in high-end Yamaha AV receivers and a proprietary power supply ground configuration prevents sound degradation. A 48-bit digital volume control provides much greater precision and quality than conventional controls. A highly-rigid metal chassis supplies the stability necessary for clear, powerful music reproduction.
High-Resolution Audio
The WXA-50 supports high-resolution audio - including FLAC/WAV/AIFF up to 192 kHz/24-bit, Apple Lossless (ALAC) up to 96 kHz/24-bit and DSD up to 5.6 MHz - for more accurate reproduction of sonic details, presence and atmosphere.
Yamaha Proprietary Sound Processing
The Compressed Music Enhancer greatly improves sound reproduction from smartphones or other compressed sources, like MP3 files. Volume-adaptive EQ automatically adjusts the bass/treble balance according to the volume level. Advanced Bass Extension provides a deeper, richer low-end sound - great for use with compact or in-wall speakers. Direct Mode allows you to play back high-resolution audio sources just as they are, without any processing.
One-Touch Controls
Pressing any button on the front panel turns the unit on and initiates playback of the previously selected source providing quick and easy access to your favorite music.
The WXA-50 also comes with an ultra-slim remote offering six presets, so you can quickly access your favorite Internet radio stations even when your smartphone or tablet's not handy.

Low Power Consumption
The WXA-50 consumes less than two watts of power in standby mode. When the power is on, power consumption is still a low 15 watts. In addition, the Auto Power Standby feature lets you save energy by automatically turning the power off after two, four, eight or 12 hours.
